Bet On The Magic Millions 3YO Guineas
An unbeaten start to her campaign, as well as a favourable draw from gate 2, whereas most of the other main contenders were drawn out wide, will give Jason McLachlan high hopes that his Enquare (4.60) can take home the 1400-metre Magic Millions 3YO Guineas on Saturday afternoon and give him his second win in the race in successive years, after Saluter hung on for the win last year.

Three wins from three this season – and four on the trot in total – have served as ideal preparation for Saturday’s assignment, and with Jim Byrne on board Enquare will be looking to make it five from five. The in-form filly most recently won the Listed Mode Plate over 1400 metres ahead of the favoured Missy Longstocking (13.00 and also drawn wide in gate 17), before claiming the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate.
Wyong Magic Millions Stakes winner and Golden Slipper-placed Sweet Idea (4.80), who was favourite for the race at one stage, lost some ground in the markets after being drawn out in gate 15. The Gai Waterhouse-trained horse remains one of the favourites for the race, though the 1400-metre distance might be a bit of a stretch for her, coming from wide out.
One rider who wasn’t too disappointed with a wide draw was Michael Rodd, who will look to steer Charlie Boy (8.00) to his third career victory on Saturday from gate 16. The colt is the only runner in the field not to have had a lead up run coming into the race, though he has a good record when first up, winning the ATC Membership On Sale Now Handicap and the 2013 Group 2 Danehill Stakes, as well as finishing second in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes.
The top riders will be weary of threats coming from the field, with the likes of Northern Glory (9.00), Shiraz Attack (12.00), Salute To Jude (11.00), Gundy Spirit (10.00) and Weinholt (11.00), who had a good run out behind Sweet Idea in the Wyong and arguably drew best of all in gate six, all capable of pulling off a good run on the day and upsetting the front-runners.
The Tony Gollan-trained Gundy Spirit will favour the longer 1400-metre distance, and ran very well over 1350 metres to finish second to Enquare last time out in the Vo Rogue Plate, and his relatively long odds will probably shorten over the next few days before being locked in ahead of the race on Saturday afternoon. Coming in from gate 10, the gelding should be in decent company as the favourites come in from their wide berths, and he could cause them some serious concerns should he be able to hitch a ride with them to the finish.
